Our Children Dentistry Services
Did you know your child may be eligible for up to $1,052 worth of bulk billed general and restorative dentistry treatments under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) commenced on 1 January 2014 and provides access to benefits for basic dental services to around 3 million children aged 2-17 years. The total benefit entitlement is capped at $1052.00 per child over a two-calendar-year period. The CDBS provides individual benefits for a range of services, including examinations: cleanings, x-rays, fissure sealants, fillings, root canal treatment, extractions and more.
If you’re not if sure your child is eligible, please go to the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule website or talk to one of our friendly front office staff will be happy to check for you.
We recommend bringing your child in for check-ups at an early age. This is usually when your baby’s first tooth becomes visible or they reach 12months old, whichever comes first. By the age of 3, most children can sit alone in the exam chair. Our capable and caring team wants your child’s experience to be one that’s enjoyable from start to finish. As a parent or caregiver, you will be equipped with proven techniques to help safeguard your child’s smile before problems have a chance to develop.
Fissure Sealants are thin, protective layers that help avoid food and bacteria sticking to the deep grooves found on adult teeth. Making it easier to keep cavity-prone areas clean. Each one is just a thin coating of tooth-coloured or clear material. They take our veteran dentists or therapists only a few minutes to apply! No numbing or loud instruments are necessary.
When placed into the deep grooves and cracks of cavity-prone teeth, sealants can help to reduce the risk of your son or daughter developing tooth decay. These areas are easier to brush clean, giving your child a boost during their formative years.
When Should Teeth Be Sealed?
The most cavity-prone teeth are the molars (the grinding teeth at the back of your mouth). Generally, these teeth start to erupt around the age 6, although this can vary. Our experienced dental providers recommend sealing the molars soon after they erupt when they are most susceptible to decay.
We understand the importance and benefit of correcting the bite before reaching adulthood.
Having a balanced and stable bite will provide comfort and protection to the teeth, jaw joints and head and neck muscles throughout life.
A child will grow 20 baby teeth in their childhood lifetime by the time they are 3-4 years old.
This is subject to change as each child has a different growth rate, meaning some teeth may be quicker or slower at growing than others. This is the same for when the baby tooth is due to fall out.
The chart on the right shows the name of each tooth. These names (as written on the right side of the image) are the same on both sides of the mouth. The information underneath indicates at what month the child’s baby tooth erupts and at what year the child loses that tooth.
