Orthodontics

Dental Care Glebe, is conveniently located in the heart of city centre, Sydney CBD. Our doctors are looking forward to providing orthodontic services. Orthodontic treatments are dental procedures that help to straighten teeth and correct problems with the bite.

You might need orthodontic treatment for:

  • crooked teeth or teeth that stick out
  • a bad bite, which is how the upper and lower jaws meet when the mouth closes
  • poorly aligned jaw
  • gaps between the teeth
  • problems with speaking, breathing or chewing

At Dental Care Glebe, our main goal is to provide high quality orthodontic treatments, by applying the most innovative technology and the best available state of the art resources. We are striving to give all our patients the optimal outcome to help improve their confidence and oral health related quality of life.

Our Orthodontics Dentistry Services

  • Early Intervention

We understand the importance and benefit of correcting the bite before reaching adulthood.

Having a balanced and stable bite will provide comfort and protection to the teeth, jaw joints and head and neck muscles throughout life.

A misaligned bite can result in:

    • Accelerated wear of the teeth (shortening of teeth), which can cause tooth sensitivity
    • Tooth enamel fractures
    • Muscular pain
    • Jaw joint issues such as clicking, locking and discomfort
    • Bruxism, headaches and compromised sleep quality

  • Expansion Appliances

An expansion appliance is used when the upper jaw/palate is narrow and deficient, which can result in the following:

    • cross-bite
    • under-bite
    • crowding
    • constriction of upper airways
    • snoring, mouth breathing
    • compressed/hidden smile

Used at the appropriate time this appliance will gently develop the upper jaw, improve the bite relationship, increase the nasal airway volume, while simultaneously reducing the risk of orthodontic extractions (removal of teeth) by creating space and a broader smile.

Orthodontically addressing the growth and development of a child’s jaw/palate can also improve breathing by increasing the airway space in the nose and reducing the detrimental impacts of obstructive sleep apnoea.

An improvement in breathing, snoring and quality of sleep can be gained during the early stages of treatment.

  • Invisalign

Invisalign is an aesthetic treatment alternative to the metal braces our parents grew up with. It uses clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth and improve bite function. The aligners are virtually invisible to most observers and provide the most comfortable, aesthetic and hygienic treatment option; thus making Invisalign the ideal choice for older teenagers and adults.

Invisalign Process at Dental Care Glebe

After we take the patient records (which includes intra-oral photos and x-rays), we will use the latest technology in 3D iTero scanning, which replaces the uncomfortable and messy traditional impressions (moulds) of the teeth. A computer simulation of your teeth and bite is then generated, allowing your Dentist to have immediate digital access to begin the process of treating your case.

Advanced digital imaging makes it possible to illustrate what to expect throughout your treatment, as your teeth move and your facial appearance improves, and to visualise the outcome.

Once you Dentist has approved your treatment plan, they will provide the first series of aligners. We typically recommend that you wear each set of aligners for 14 days before progressing to the next in the series. Your Dentist will arrange orthodontic review appointments, scheduled at specific intervals, during your treatment to monitor changes and make any necessary amendments to your treatment plan.

Some of the following concerns can be addressed with Invisalign treatment:

    • Crooked or crowded teeth
    • Overlapping or twisted teeth
    • Gaps between the teeth
    • Bite issues - deep bite, overbite, underbite and crossbite

Invisalign allows you to maintain your normal lifestyle with comfort and convenience. Patients often let us know how flexible Invisalign is with their schedule and life/work balance. Invisalign aligners are removable; therefore, eating and oral hygiene are easier to manage, whilst providing the opportunity to enjoy professional engagements and social occasions with confidence and ease.

    Post-Orthodontic Treatment Retention

Our practice philosophy is to ensure that your hard work, commitment and pleasing result is maintained long-term. The only way that we can ensure a stable orthodontic outcome is with life-long retention.

Immediately after orthodontic treatment has completed, the teeth are vulnerable to movement. This is because the bone around the teeth has expanded and requires time to condense and stabilise after treatment. This is the reason why fixed and removable retainers are recommended and are so important!

  • Braces

When Is the Ideal Age for Braces?

Whether your child had early orthodontic treatment or not, braces are used to treat the teeth in late primary/high school. Treatment generally commences from the age of 12-13 years and upwards.

How Long Will My Teen Need Braces?

The average treatment duration is 18-24 months. However, this can vary depending on the severity of the case and patient cooperation.

To closely monitor treatment progress, regular appointments will be scheduled with your dentist approximately every eight weeks.

    Oral Hygiene During Orthodontics

It’s essential to avoid eating anything that might damage your braces or wires during orthodontic treatment. This includes anything too hard or chewy and anything containing too much sugar. Your teeth are more susceptible to decay during treatment with braces. A healthy diet will promote good oral health. Cutting apples, carrots and other foods into smaller pieces rather than biting into them will help prevent dislodging braces.

Our staff will educate and provide you with an oral hygiene routine for you to maintain, in order to keep the teeth and gums healthy while undergoing treatment.

    Post-Orthodontic Treatment Retention

Immediately after completing orthodontic treatment, the teeth are vulnerable to movement. This is because the bone around the teeth has expanded and requires time to condense and stabilise after treatment. This is the reason why fixed and removable retainers will be provided and are so important!
