Regular check-up and cleans

At Dental Care Glebe we believe that the first step to healthier looking teeth is a check up and clean. Comprehensive oral examinations and x-rays can help identify and resolve potential problems such as cavities, gum disease, root issues and more, well before they develop into serious issues for your oral health.

In addition to this, regular teeth cleaning every 6 months keeps your pearly whites shining and smiling for longer. Our regular cleans help remove tough calculus and plaque build-up, as well as polish and remove stains that you can’t get off with your toothbrush.

For New Patients, if you don’t have a dental emergency it is recommended to take advantage of our New Patient Check-up and Clean Package. This allows us to get to know you and your overall oral health and set a future treatment plan that will maintain optimal results for your teeth.

Periodontal Disease

A Risk to Your Future Smile?

Untreated gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, affecting the bone and gums around the teeth and complicating health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure. Without treatment, periodontitis worsens, leading to tooth mobility or loss. Understanding the disease is crucial for effective treatment.

A Risk to Your Overall Health?

If periodontal disease persists, bacteria can spread toxins to your bone and cardiovascular system, potentially leading to heart problems, premature births, strokes, and other conditions. Periodontitis cannot be fully reversed, but it can be halted. After initial treatments, our dentists will recommend maintenance appointments to help keep your smile healthy.

Diagnostic Imaging

Dental X-rays are essential for detecting damage and disease not visible during regular exams. The frequency of X-rays depends on your oral health, age, disease risk, and symptoms. Your dentist will assess your history and mouth before recommending X-rays.

New patients may need X-rays to establish a baseline for future comparisons. They can help identify new cavities, gum health status, or tooth development. If you have previous X-rays, your new dentist may request copies.

While dental X-ray exams involve low radiation exposure, the risk is minimal. Techniques are designed to keep exposure as low as reasonably achievable.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A DENTAL CHECK-UP AND CLEAN?

We recommend visiting every six months to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Some patients may need more frequent visits based on their oral health needs.

Your dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and overall oral health, checking for cavities, early signs of gum disease, and other issues. A professional clean removes plaque and tartar buildup, keeping your smile fresh and healthy.

Even with good oral hygiene, plaque can harden into tartar, which can only be removed by a dental professional. Regular cleanings help prevent cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.

Most patients experience no pain, just a mild tickling sensation from the cleaning tools. If you have sensitive teeth, let us know—we can make adjustments for your comfort.

Yes! Early signs of cavities, gum disease, and even oral cancer can be detected during routine check-ups, allowing for early treatment.

Periodontal disease (gum disease) is an infection of the gums caused by plaque buildup. It can lead to gum recession, bone loss, and even tooth loss if left untreated.

Common symptoms include bleeding gums, bad breath, gum swelling, receding gums, and loose teeth. If you notice any of these, book a visit as soon as possible.

In the early stage (gingivitis), a professional clean and improved oral hygiene can reverse it. Advanced cases (periodontitis) may require deep cleaning (scaling and root planing), antibiotics, or gum surgery.

Early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) can be reversed with proper care. Advanced periodontitis can’t be fully cured but can be managed with professional treatment and good oral hygiene.

Brush twice daily, floss every day, use an antibacterial mouthwash, and attend regular check-ups to keep your gums healthy.

X-rays help detect hidden cavities, bone loss, infections, impacted teeth, and other issues that aren’t visible during a regular exam.

Yes! Dental X-rays use low radiation doses and are safe for all patients.

It depends on your oral health. Most patients need X-rays every 1–2 years, but high-risk patients may need them more frequently.

A regular X-ray captures a few teeth at a time, while an OPG provides a full view of the jaw, teeth, and bone structure in a single image.

In most cases, we avoid X-rays during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. If needed, we take extra precautions to ensure safety.
